- Chase has increased bonus from 40K to 60K on all three personal Southwest Rapid Rewards (RR) Visa cards and now each of the four Southwest credit cards is offering 60,000 points: personal Southwest RR Plus Visa ($69 annual fee), personal Southwest RR Premier Visa ($99 annual fee), business Southwest RR Premier Visa ($99 annual fee), and personal Southwest RR Priority Visa ($149 annual fee). The signup bonus before the annual fee is considered $840 with our current valuation of 1.4 cents per point.
- The $99 annual fee Barclays JetBlue Plus MasterCard is offering 50,000 points (=$700 in our book with the points value of 1.4 cents a piece), increased from the regular 30,000 points. The JetBlue Business MasterCard is offering up to 60,000 points (50K after spending $1,000 within 3 months of new account opening and 10K for adding an employee card and making the first purchase).
- U.S. Bank has also increased signup bonus on the Radisson Rewards Premier Visa ($75 annual fee) to a historical high - 120,000 points after $3,000 spent within the first 3 months of new account opening. However, our valuation of Radisson Rewards points is only 0.25 cent a piece, so the 120K bonus is worth $300 in our book.
These are the recently updated signup offers:

Chase has changed the signup bonus on its three personal Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Visa Credit Cards (Plus, Premier, Priority): from "40K + 20K" to "Companion Pass + 30K". On any of the three cards, you will earn Companion Pass + 30,000 points after spending $4,000 within 3 months of new account opening. Companion Pass is Southwest's potentially extremely lucrative top-tier elite status that allows you take a companion free of airline charges (not including taxes and government fees) on any Southwest operated flight as many times as you want and is normally achieved by flying 100 qualified one-way segments or earning 110,000 qualifying points in a calendar year. This promotional Companion Pass earned by opening the credit card is good through December 31, 2019. This bonus is not available if you currently have any personal Southwest Rapid Rewards credit card (Southwest Plus, Southwest Premier, Southwest Priority) or have received a signup bonus for any personal Southwest credit card in the past 24 months. Based on anecdotal reports, this card is subject to Chase's 5/24 rule (you won't be approved for this card if you have opened 5 or more new accounts within the past 24 months; any new account with any issuer will count, not just with Chase; new accounts include most credit cards and charge cards but exclude non-Chase business cards and store charge cards).
With this offer, you have a potential of saving a lot of money with the one-year Companion Pass, depending how many times you fly with a companion and where you go. Southwest Airlines flies to most destinations in continental U.S., Mexico, some Caribbean destinations, and Hawaii (starting sometime in 2019). Our valuation of Companion Pass is conservatively $600 based on one long trip and two short trips, which most cardmembers could realistically do. Combined with the 30K Southwest points, the signup bonus ranges $870 to $950 in value, easily the best in history of Southwest Visa. Previously a similar bonus of Companion Pass + 40K was offered to California residents only back in 2017. We haven't written many posts in the recent year or so, and the reason was explained in the previous few posts. However, now we would like to change things up again, based on feedback from readers. We will have more short, Twitter like posts, for new or updated reviews as well as credit card and poitns/miles related news.
Chase has introduced Southwest Rapid Rewards (RR) Priority Visa, with a up-to-65K points signup bonus. The 7.5K anniversary points and the $75 annual Southwest credit combined more than offset the $149 annual fee, and you will enjoy upgrades to Business Select (who will mind A1-A15?) four times a year, 20% onboard discount, potential Tier Qualifying Points earning, etc. for free. A great card to keep after 1st year. For details see our updated Southwest Visa Review. The recent highlights on the site include the rebranded U.S. Bank Radisson Rewards Visa, the new Chase World of Hyatt Visa, the new Chase Ink Unlimited Business Visa, the revived Barclays Arrival Plus WEMC. The best ever Southwest Companion Pass deal & JetBlue Plus WEMC 60K points (our value $830)11/11/2017 You have probably noticed that I have stopped doing the regular (or irregular) update posts in the blog section. But it doesn't mean that I have stopped updating the website. The reason for giving up on the round-up type of blog posts is that I am getting tired of it - they are too dry to me and probably to most of you. If you remember, in a post written in March 2016 "Five Years of Earning and Redeeming Miles/Points with Credit Cards - My Personal Story" I had a plan for more interesting posts such as trip reviews and personal stories; unfortunately that plan never took off - I probably only wrote one or two posts like that. The reason is that I simply don't have time - I have a full-time demanding job, a 2 to 3-hour daily commute, and two young kids that need a lot of attention. I can't and don't want to compete with those bloggers that write several posts per day; however, I think my website has some unique features that are not available on any other websites or blogs. So I have decided to focus more on the website (and reviews) than the blog posts: no more round-up type of posts, and I will only write blog posts whenever I feel that I need to share my thoughts on something that is going on; on the other hand, I will continue to update the website and reviews, and it shall be pretty easy for you to know when a review was last updated.
Today I would like to share two interesting deals. Southwest Companion Pass Deal for CA Residents Chase Southwest Personal Premier or Plus Visa has a deal that never happened before: for California residents only, when you open a new credit card account and make just one purchase, you will receive Companion Pass status through December 2018; in addition, you will receive 40,000 points after spending at least $1,000 within the first 3 months of account opening. Even though the 40K is lower than the 50-60K offers that haven't been hard to find over the last years, the Companion Pass offer is almost too good to be true. Companion Pass allows you to take a companion for free as many times as you want (almost free - you are only paying taxes and charges for the companion) as long as you maintain this status; it normally requires earning 120K points in a calendar year. In the past, a relatively easy way to earn this status to to sign up two Chase Southwest Visa Cards, each giving you 50-60K, and if you do this early in a calendar year, you will have this status for the rest of that year and for the entire following calendar year. So with this offer, you only need to sign up one single card! CA residents, hurry up as this offer expires November 30, 2017. Barclaycard JetBlue Plus WEMC 60K Barclaycard JetBlue Plus WEMC now has an excellent offer of 60,000 points after spending $1,000 within 3 months of new account opening, increased from the regular 30K. JetBlue points are different from traditional miles - they are somehow closely based on the revenue price of the tickets. Our value is 1.4 cents per point (the range could be between 1.1 to 1.9 cents). However, JetBlue Plus WEMC has a built-in feature: whenever you redeem points for awards, you will receive a rebate of 10% points back to your account, which essentially increases our value of JetBlue points to 1.55 cents. Note that the $99 annual is not waived, so the signup bonus of 60K will be valued at $830 in our book. Note that JetBlue is also running a limited time promotion: when you redeem points for awards by 11/14/17 and fly by 2/14/18, you will receive a rebate of 15% points back to your account. Of course, not every JetBlue member can or/and wants to take this promotion, but if you do and you have a JetBlue Plus WEMC, you will receive a 25% rebate in total, which increases the value of these points to 1.87 cents a piece. For members that are interested in signing up a new JetBlue Plus WEMC now, this promotion is almost irrelevant as the time is running out too soon, but for members that already had a JetBlue Plus WEMC, this promotion is definitely worth checking into. © 2017 DrCreditCard.net All rights reserved. August 31, 2017 Update - Barclays AA Red 60K, Chase Southwest 60K, Chase 5/24 rule explained8/31/2017 We have been continuing making updates throughout the site, and here are some highlights:
We have been continuing to make updates throughout the site. Here are the highlights of the week.
We have been making updates throughout the site and this post highlights some changes:
This is Sean, aka Dr. Credit Card. First of all, I would like to wish every reader of the site a happy 2017! It is pretty crazy that the last blog post was almost two months ago - I bought a new house and moved in recently and have been unable to keep up. Even though there have been updates on the site here and there, I wish more could have been done. Now we have been slowly settling in, the site should be back to normal. Here are some highlights of the recent updates.
The wait is totally worth it! It has been rumored for several months that Chase would introduce this high-end Sapphire in August with a 100K points signup bonus - and now everything has come true. Please see our review for the new Sapphire Reserve Visa Infinite for details of this new favorite. Here is the new card in a nutshell:
Sapphire Reserve is now ranked #1 in signup bonus, #3 in rewards, #9 in perks, and #3 in protection, among all credit cards. By a large margin, it beats Citi Prestige to become the new #1 Best Credit Card by Dr. Credit Card! Let's look at side-by-side comparison of the old (left) and new (right) lists of Top 10 Best Credit Cards by Dr. Credit Card: There are several changes: (1) Chase Sapphire Preferred uncrowns Citi Prestige, while Barclays Arrival Plus WEMC falls off the Top 10 list; (2) Citi ThankYou Premier falls from #2 to #6 due to its disappearing signup bonus; (3) there are some minor adjustments due to some changes in signup bonus and perks.
The last thing to know before applying Sapphire Reserve is that the so-called Chase 5/24 rule seems to be strictly enforced for online applications: if you have 5 or more new accounts opened and shown on your credit report in the past 24 months, including credit cards from all banks, possibly mortgages, loans, lines of credit, and even accounts as authorized users, you will get denied automatically by Chase. There are reports which indicated (1) applying in Chase branch when you pre-qualifies for the card or (2) applying as a Chase Private Client may bypass the 5/24 rule. © 2016 DrCreditCard.net All rights reserved. Since early 2012 the best offer for Chase Sapphire Preferred, one of our favorite cards, has been 40K points, until recently Chase finally brought back the 50K offer. You will receive 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 within 3 months of account opening. You will also receive an additional 5,000 points for adding the first authorized user and making the first purchase within 3 months of account opening. 55K points are worth $550 in your checking account or $687.50 when you redeem for travel rewards, or can be transferred to 55K miles/points in frequent traveler programs such as United, Southwest, British, Korean, Singapore, Hyatt, etc. Note that the spending requirement of the new offer does increase from $3,000 to $4,000. The $95 annual fee is waived for the frist year.
